2009 saw the debut of a new team in the Le Mans Series, a debut that was to set a benchmark in LMGT2 racing.
Establishing JMW Motorsport, owner Jim McWhirter wanted to create an independent and passionate team based around the Ferrari F430, which had already set itself apart as a race and Championship winner. In the role as commercial director and Team Manager, Tim Sugden was brought in to oversee the growth and development of this tight knit and focussed team.
The Essex based team has raced mainly as a Ferrari team with the 430, 458 and now the 488 GTE car but also ran one year as a works backed Aston Martin team in 2010.
For the past 6 seasons JMW have contested LMES and Le Mans winning the championship four times. In 2017 the team achieved their dream, winning Le Mans in the pro-am class, with the amazing driver line up of Rob Smith, Dries Vanthoor and Will Stevens.
Initially working as their driver development coach, the initial Strakka racing role expanded with Tim engaged as commercial director. At the time, Strakka were competing at several levels of the sport starting with the Zanardi Strakka Kart team competing in european and world championships.
The programme expanded, with car racing teams in Renault 2 litre ,Renault World Series, and Renault RS01. Bringing the situation up to date, for 2018 Strakka have focussed on being a supported Mercedes team contesting the Blancpain Endurance and Intercontinental series where Tim is involved liasing with drivers and sponsors for the team.
